The extent of livelihood diversification on the determinants of livelihood diversification in Assosa Wereda, Western Ethiopia

Abstract This study was conducted to examine the determinants of diversification livelihoods investigate degree households’ in Assosa wereda, Benshangul Gumuz Regional State, western Ethiopia. A total 320 sample rural households were selected by using systematic sampling technique from four kebeles. Both qualitative and quantitative data collected through a structured questionnaire, key informant interview, focus group discussions observation. The analyzed descriptive statistical tools, multinomial logit regression model, Simpson Diversification Index. result show, 14 identified: level education, dependency ratio, access irrigation, household urban linkage significant predictors livelihoods. Whereas age sex, road distance, credit access, media insignificant Meanwhile, land hold size, livestock holding size Tropical Livestock Unit, extension contact, cooperative member income couldn’t have any association with real conditions on ground. Ultimately, Diversity Index showed that there no rather than "specialization" livelihood. therefore urges more opportunities poverty alleviation development.
